HOW IT ALL STARTED
Pre 1996, I had been saying for some time to Shorty Clement, Bruce Jury & Dave Ransome all with (British) Royal Enfields other than Murali Bhaskar with his Madras Enfield.
We should organize a RE rally, you know, there’s a BSA rally, Norton rally, Triumph rally etc all happening. We should get off our butt and do something about it.
So we did.
We knew of several RE owners scattered about NZ. IE. Jack Humphrey in PN. Jack Bier and Dave Moffatt both in Nelson. John Rapley in Paraparaumu, Paul Switzer in Wellington, Jim Mundin in Tokoroa, Brian Blakeley in Paekakariki, Peter Millar in Wellington, Fed Rix in Huntly & Mickey Rat in Waihi
1996 Along with the locals Athalie Clement, Dave Ransom, Bruce Jury, Shorty Clement, Murali Bhaskar, David Greensill we invited the out of town-ers to attend a RE rally. They duly turn up on their bikes other than Jack who drove his RE powered Berkeley sports car from Nelson to the first RE rally held in New Plymouth.
After an afternoon ride out a meeting was held attended by the seven locals and 10 visitors, the NZREOR was formed with 17 founding members

Affordable insurance without being cheap, getting news from across New Zealand with the bulletin and most importantly and the main reason I joined is the Community and getting together with members whether it a local ride or a rally.
Camaraderie and friendship.Since joining 2 years ago I have made many friends from all over NZ. We have our local group of NZREOR riders but the opportunity to attend NZREOR rally’s, both in the North and South Islands, give me a reason to frolic around the country which in turn gives me the chance to renew and make new friendships. The cheap insurance is a bonus lol.
After being talked into buying a 411 Himalayan by a friend, I was then introduced to our local register group on one of the regular monthly rides. The lack of ego’s and friendly banter had me signing up for the next NZ Royal Enfield owners register rally in Pukenui. The rest is history as they say, now on the 450 Himalayan and well involved locally the great friends I have made will last a lifetime. Kudos to Lew and the committee for bringing together a great group of people from all over the country who share a common interest in Royal Enfield’s.Write to Jim Morrison

Big thanks to Phil and Crooky you put in a big effort – we had a fabulous rally. Saturday ride to Kawhia was the Long and Winding road we were all promised. Really enjoyed meeting old friends and new. Yet somehow half the fun was in getting there and back !
